Scholarships

WVU offers scholarships to attract and retain students who have traditionally been underrepresented on college campuses. In addition to these opportunities for Black students, check the , which includes institutional, departmental, leadership and study abroad scholarships.

Katherine Johnson Scholarship

Established to honor NASA pioneer Katherine Johnson, the first Black women to attend WVU graduate school, this scholarship benefits African American students studying math or science in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

The Scott D. Widmeyer First-Generation/African American Scholarships

The scholarship program benefits African American and first-generation West Virginian college students who are seeking degrees in journalism. The scholarships focus on students in WVU’s Reed College of Media. To date, 40 students have been awarded scholarships. Scott Widmeyer is a recipient of the Distinguished West Virginian Award for his ongoing commitment to WVU.
